Don't Pollute Us, Brutus

Just in time for Earth Day, the OndAzul Foundation and Brazil’s Quê Comunicação have teamed up to bring Brazil a marine pollution awareness campaign:

What directly comes to mind first is suicide—which is a perfect tie-in to marine pollution.  What many people don’t realize is that so many things depend on the health of our oceans. All ecosystems are connected, and each one depends on the other. Even if you live in rural Idaho, the ocean affects you—and you affect it. When we pollute our oceans, we’re essentially committing suicide. Or, as these suggest, our ass will rot on the bottom of the floor right next to a nasty toilet.

The OndAzul Foundation is a wonderful non-profit organization that has been promoting clean oceans for over thirty years. They maintain that “...environmental issues [are] first and foremost cultural issues. Solutions to environmental issues must come through changes in behaviour, greater environmental awareness and a broader world view.”

Strong advertising has remained one of their most important tools for inspiring action.

Author’s Note: I totally took the title from the back of a Newman’s dressing bottle. Sue me.
